Denim Shorts Szn

Shopping for a new pair of summer shorts is so, so, SOOOOO stressful. I have always had thick thighs, so I knew what I was up against: get another pair of Bermuda length shorts and settle on the same, albeit cute, look – or – get shorter shorts and live with the cuff area threatening to be like a tourniquet with each step. The struggle.

I bravely set out to scour the racks and internet. I was goldilocksing hoping to find a pair that was just right. Alas, to no avail, as everything was too short, too long, too tight, too stiff, just always too something. I had found a pair I loved at the store but when I put them on, it looked like I was trying so hard to be 18 again what with the overdone distressing and in an on-trend acid wash that was super cute yet hardly versatile. Would I ever find a pair that would look amazing on the hanger and on my thick thighs?! Or, should I just resign myself to the perfectly nice pair from last year? Call it a summer when the season hadn’t even officially started yet? Sigh.

Then one day, as I was picking out some nice tops on Amazon for summer OOTDs, I stumbled on the cutest looking frayed hem denim shorts. I was thinking there was no way these would ever work on my legs. But intrigued and hopeful, I clicked on the link and began scrolling through the reviews. As it always goes, there was a mix bag of thoughts on the fit. Some said these ran big; others said these ran small. Overall, everyone mentioned how comfortable they were because the fabric was so soft and stretchy with the perfect amount of distressing. Oh, and if you had booty, hips, and thighs, these were for you – sign me up NOW.

I had nothing to lose at this point. Click. Pay. Send. And in 2 days these would be mine, all mine. Waiting seemed like an eternity as it always does when we want something to arrive yesterday, but there they were in the promised 48. With bated breath, I quickly took them in from the front doorsteps, fervently ripped open the package, and then immediately understood what all the fuss was about. The denim material was ultra soft, super stretchy, and the distressing with the frayed hem was really just the cutest😍. I got these in a size medium in both the light (blue) and black wash. Bonus: all the pockets were real! Two deep front pockets, two back ones, and the appropriate tiny front coin one (does anyone really ever use this? Does anyone even carry coins? Anyway, I can still appreciate the allegiance to classic design elements). There are also side vents for added comfort. Did I mention the cute frayed hem?!😍

So when I put them on, they did fit nicely with the spandex hugging all my right curves and leaving all the ones I didn’t want to show, hidden. They were truly magical✨. The issue I had was these just felt a little bit too short for my comfort and a tad too form fitting to feel apropos for the everyday. Poolside, beach house, careless undergrad days when we all tried to “out heaux” each other in an attention-seeking manner that only college girls know how to do – these would be perfection. Also note, I like to wear these higher on the waist, so when I pulled them up they were just way too much all up in my business and for everyone to see. If I wore them mid or low rise (these are that stretchy, so you can adjust them to wherever you like to have them sit on your hip area), then I would have kept the size medium. So, I re-ordered these in a size large, and they arrived promptly. I put them on and they were a bit looser and longer, and exactly how I wanted them to fit! Also, since these didn’t fit snug anymore, they were more versatile and I could dress them up a bit with strappy sandals or dress them down in dress-code caj white sneakers (shown) or flip flops. The large was slightly loose in the waist, but not so much that they would fall off my body, and nothing a belt couldn’t fix, if need be.

So if you’re thicker in the booty, hips, and thighs and like to wear these shorts more high rise, I would size up for a better fit. If you want to wear them low-to-mid rise, order your usual size. If you’re slim or average build, you could size down since it’s cut more on the generous side in the hip and leg area. With that being said, even with my big thighs don’t lie kinda life, I had just the right amount of space in the leg opening – which is a first!

Since these have amazing stretch and an ideal inseam of almost 3 inches, they will fit a wide range of body types. If you’re on the fence about getting a pair, just do it! You won’t be disappointed!❤️
