Everyday Chic: Button Down & Jeans

This post is sponsored by Express. All opinions are my own.

When in doubt, button down! A good button down can take you from work to play in seconds. Tucked into slacks or a skirt, you look polished and professional. And up until only recently, I’ve learned how very versatile this style top can be outside of the 9 to 5. Learning to pair it with more casual pieces, like jeans, my outside-of-work style just got majorly elevated.

Instead of tucking this top in, I opted to tie it at the waist for a fun and girly look. I’m a solid medium in Express button downs, but when you want to be able to knot it at the waist, I go up a size so I have more material to work with in terms of tying the perfect knot. Also, since the material is so lightweight, there is very little-to-no bulk but you get the benefits of styling it so many more ways because you have more length (think tunic with leggings!) and material. Buying a button down oversized gives you more styling options, for sure.

By going up a size I also noticed that it’s just more comfortable and I like how it drapes the body better. Initially I had purchased this button down in a size medium. It fit very well but, well, it just felt too fitted. I exchanged it for a large and I’m so happy I did. With a looser fit you can more easily dress it up with a suit, dress it down with jeans, or worn as a tunic (untucked) with leggings. So many more options! Express has always been my favorite when it comes to button downs because the material is always so luxurious and the cut always modern and chic.

Finally, these jeans are everything. Express just launched their Curvy denim line and I’m seriously in love. More room in the hips, thighs, and calves but zero issues with gaping at the waist. These jeans were made for gals with a waist-to-hip difference of 13 inches. Although my waist-to-hip ration is about 10 inches, these fit so well. The material is so soft with a lot of stretch. I’m usually a size 6 in jeans but these ran large and I am wearing a size 4 (all the reviews online also said to size one size down because this style runs large. The jeans are in a grey/black wash which I love since it’s a nice change to regular blue denim.

Outfit Sizing: top – large; jeans – 4 (runs one size larger in this style!), jacket – small; shoes – 7.
